Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau brought Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Donald Trump, to a performance of the new musical "Come From Away" on Broadway in New York Wednesday, The New York Times reported.
Trump was seated between Trudeau and American Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki R. Haley.
The musical has themes of welcoming outsiders. BBC News reported it is about the true story of Gander, Newfoundland, which welcomed 7,000 travelers who were stranded in the days after the Sept. 11 attacks.
The musical previously had a successful run in Canada.
Despite the theme of the show, The New York Times said Trudeau did not outright speak on the role of government in immigration policy, but spoke instead about the show, which he saw for the first time that night.
“The world gets to see what it is to lean on each other and be there for each other through the darkest times.
“There is no relationship quite like the friendship between Canada and the United States,” he said. “This story, this amazing show, is very much about that, and it’s about friendship as well."
Trudeau shared photos from the visit in a tweet Thursday.
