Now, 40 years later, Caitlyn Jenner is appearing on the cover of the iconic sports magazine.

"Caitlyn Jenner as you know her now. Bruce Jenner as you never knew him then," the new issue states on the cover.

And despite previous reports that Jenner would appear naked on the cover of the magazine, she is fully clothed; she dons a gold sequin jumpsuit, gold rings and her hard-earned Olympic gold medal.

Jenner came out as a transgender woman in April 2015.

"I loved Bruce," Jenner, 66, told Sports Illustrated. "I still love him today. I like what he did and the way he set an example for hard work and dedication. I'm proud of that part of my life. But this woman was living inside me, all my life, and it reached the point where I had to let her live and put Bruce inside. And I am happier, these last 12 months, than I've ever been in my life."
