Bumble Bee Foods, along with two of the tuna company’s workers, were charged Monday in connection with a plant employee who burned to death in an industrial pressure cooker at the company's Santa Fe Springs plant in October 2012.
The two workers charged in the case are former safety manager Saul Florez and director of plant operations Angel Rodriguez, who still works at the plant.

Jose Melena, 62, was inside a 35-foot oven for maintenance when other workers loaded about six tons of tuna into it, then shut the door and turned it on.
Melena cooked to death as the pressure cooker reached 270 degrees, and his remains were found by another worker.
Bumble Bee Foods said in a statement that Melena’s death was a “tragic accident.”
A conviction could carry a prison term up to three years for Rodriguez and Florez and a fine up to $1.5 million for the company.
