Blue Bell is recalling some of its Rocky Road ice cream after the containers were mistakenly filled with a different flavor, Cookies ’n Cream.
The lids say Cookies ’n Cream, the Brenham-based creamery, while the container itself is labeled Rocky Road.
The recall affects pints of Rocky Road with a code date of 022918576, Blue Bell said.
The problem was discovered by a Blue Bell employee who was restocking shelves at an undisclosed store, according to spokeswoman Jenny Van Dorf.
Cookies ’n Cream “contains the undeclared allergens soy and wheat, which may present a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction risk to people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or wheat,” the company said in a written statement.
“No illnesses have been reported to date, and there are no other health or safety concerns except for those posed to people that have soy or wheat allergies.”
Customers can return the ice cream to the store where it was purchased for a full refund, Blue Bell said.
The company issued a recall of all its products last year, the first in more than 100 years, following a listeria scare that was linked to several deaths and illnesses. The company closed down all four of its plants and vowed to clean them and make needed repairs.
