Claude Conn made the mistake of leaving the doors to his vehicles unlocked.
He awoke Saturday to the sounds of the alarm going off.
The culprit, a black bear, did not steal anything or do too much damage to the van but it destroyed the interior of Conn's truck.
"I get over here and the whole interior has been unassembled," Conn told WWMT.
The Montmorency Sheriff's Department first responded to the call before handing it off to the state's Department of Natural Resources, according to Upnorthlive.
There are about 2,000 black bears in Michigan, the state's Department of Natural Resources told WEYI. It's rare for a bear to break into a car, the Department of Natural Resources told WWMT. However, they will come close to a house if food is left out.
"It's kind of a rare instance, you know, something like that is definitely possible to happen, but it's not something that people are notifying us about," said Shelby Hiestand, a wildlife biologist at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Conn does not harbor any ill will toward the bear.
"I'll take measures," Conn told Upnorthlive. "But until now, I'll let the neighbors worry about him."
