On Thursday, Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine appeared on "CBS This Morning" with R&B singer Mary J. Blige, who stars in at least two of the latest Apple music commercials.

In the latest commercial, Blige joins actresses Kerry Washington and Taraji P. Henson in a scene in which the three women bond over music in the kitchen of one of their homes.

While explaining the thinking behind the commercial, Iovine said: "I always knew that women find it very difficult at times – some women – to find music. And this helps makes it easier with playlists, curated by real people. They're not made by algorithms alone – they're made by algorithms but with a human touch."

He continued:

“I just thought of a problem: Girls are sitting around talking about boys, right? Or complaining about boys! When they’re heartbroken or whatever. They need music for that, right? It’s hard to find the right music. Not everyone has, you know, the right list or knows a DJ.”

Blige praised Iovine for the idea and spoke about her gratitude for being included in the project.
But Iovine received backlash for his comments.
He later apologized.
“We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone — men and women, young and old. Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize,” he told Buzzfeed News.
