An Airbus A320. bound for Seattle, with 140 passengers on board landed safely in Philadelphia Friday evening, after an emergency was declared shortly after take-off, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA reported:
- "American Airlines Flight 669, an Airbus A320 aircraft, operated by US Airways, landed safely at Philadelphia International Airport at about 9:20 pm (Friday)."
- "The crew of American 669 declared an emergency shortly after it departed Philadelphia due to an engine-related problem."
- "There were no injuries reported."
- "The flight was heading to Seattle Tacoma International Airport."
- "The FAA will investigate."
The issue in question, which was not described in detail, could cause fuel to burn off the engine, according to the airline, and that might explain why several witnesses on the ground tweeted to say they saw flames on the plane before it landed.
Passengers and crew members were put on another plane, and as of Friday night, are expected to arrive in Seattle around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
