Leah Still has been through a lot in her short life since being diagnosed with cancer in June 2014.
But she recently received the best news of all: she’s cancer-free.
Leah's father, Devon Still, made the announcement on his Instagram page earlier this week.
“I want to thank everyone who followed us as I documented her fight on social media. The amount of support we received was beyond amazing! I can honestly say that you all made a big difference. Every time we received bad news or felt like it was coming to a point where we couldn’t fight anymore, I would go to the comments you all wrote cheering us on and it would make us fight so much harder,” Still said in the post.
The father-daughter duo stopped by “Good Morning America” on Friday to talk about Leah’s incredible journey, as well as her plans for the future.
The segment began with a standing ovation from Robin Roberts and the crowd.
Roberts, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, asked, “How are you feeling? You just got out of the hospital.”
“Really good,” Leah said with a big smile.
#LeahStrong became known worldwide as Devon Still chronicled his daughter’s cancer journey on social media.
Leah was asked what makes her so strong.
“I think it’s because of my daddy and me,” Leah said with a smile.
So what’s next for the 5-year-old?
“I want to be a cheerleader at Penn State because my daddy went there,” Leah said.
Roberts asked Devon Still if he had a message for other parents in similar situations.
“Just don’t give up,” he said. “I think that’s the point that anyone who is battling cancer says to everybody. Just don’t give up. There are a lot of dark spots and there’s not a lot of positive things you hear from the doctors. But if you keep the right mind frame, you can make it through anything.”
Devon Still wants everyone to remember that despite the good news, the fight isn’t over.
“I ask that since Leah’s fight is at the end that you follow other family’s journeys and cheer them on just as you did us,” Devon Still wrote in his post Tuesday. “Drop to your knees every day and pray. I was never a big spiritual person but I always believed in God and knew who to turn to in the time of need.”
