The St. Helens Police Department is serious about its crackdown on impaired drivers during the holiday season.
Abominable T. Snowman was pulled over around 8 a.m. Monday by honorary patrol Officer Claus for swerving between lanes and sideswiping a parked car, according to officials.
“(He) admitted that he was driving home from a holiday party where he drank a little too much peppermint schnapps,” Claus said.
Snowman was “arrested” and charged with DUI and reckless driving. Snowman’s blood alcohol level was .16, twice the state’s legal limit, police said.
Snowman was arraigned and could face up to a year in jail and a $6,250 fine.
The “arrest” was to kick off the department’s high-visibility campaign to reduce drunk driving.
"Impaired driving has become an increasingly dangerous occurrence in St. Helens during the winter holiday season," Sgt. Jose Castilleja said in a release. "Our goal is simple, to deter people from driving after they've been drinking or using drugs, including marijuana, in order to save lives."
