Gov. Nathan Deal tapped an Atlanta attorney to lead the watchdog agency overseeing the state’s child welfare agency.
Deal appointed Ashley Wilcott as the new director of the Office of Child Advocate. She replaces Tonya Boga, who resigned in November amid scrutiny of the state's role in failing to prevent the recent deaths of children despite warnings that they were at risk.
Wilcott is a certified child welfare specialist with her own practice. She takes the helm of the office in February.
Deal also tapped Ben Hames to head the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. Hames will oversee workforce investment activities and spearhead the Go Build Georgia skilled trade initiative.
