Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) was in a meeting while some of his colleagues participated in a sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives, but that did not stop his mother from prodding him to join.
The sit-in is an attempt by Democrats in the House to force votes on gun control laws in response to the shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, on June 12.
The sit-in is being led by John Lewis, who is no stranger to this form of protest.

Ellison shared a note from his mother, adding "My scheduler handed me this note. Couldn't say no. Don't worry, Mom. I'm there."
For further proof, Ellison posted a photo, showing that he was sitting on the House floor.
