A recall has been issued for several popular Tastykake brand snacks due to the potential presence of tiny fragments of metal wire mesh.

Flowers Foods, which is headquartered in Thomasville, issued the voluntary recall Oct. 31, but more recently updated the alert to include additional products that consumers should avoid eating and immediately discard, according to a statement from the company on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.

The recall affects Tastykake multi-pack cupcakes and certain Krimpets products that were distributed to retail outlets in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.

The products include:

  • Tastykake Chocolate Cupcakes
  • Tastykake Creme Filled Chocolate Cupcakes
  • Tastykake Buttercreme Iced Creme Filled Chocolate Cupcakes
  • Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets
  • Tastykake Creme Filled Krimpets
  • Tastykake Jelly Krimpets
  • Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets (Club Pack)
  • Tastykake 3ct Butterscotch Krimpets
  • Tastykake 3ct Jelly Krimpets

There was no indication that anyone had been injured or harmed from consuming the products, the company said.

Customers who return the products to the store where purchased can receive a full refund.
