DeKalb County police are searching for a suspect after a Decatur couple were found dead inside their home last week, both killed by gunshot wounds to the head.

Tammie Yvette Sims, 56, and Clavon Caldwell, 52, were found in their apartment in the 1000 block of Woodberry Place just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to an incident report. They were discovered by Sims’ son, who called 911.

Prior to calling police, Sims’ son knocked on the couple’s apartment door and got no answer, so he went around the building to check the back door, the report said. He told responding officers he could see his mother sitting in her wheelchair through the back blinds, but when he called her, there was no answer.

According to the incident report, three of Sims’ children last spoke with her on New Year’s Day, nearly a week before the discovery of the bodies. DeKalb police did not say how long the couple had been dead before Sims’ son found them.

One of Sims’ daughters told police that her mother was diabetic and needed assistance getting around. She said Caldwell was Sims’ husband and caretaker.
