Beautiful day to start the week with

By all accounts, North Georgia’s weather is looking up.

Temperatures are climbing, daylight hours are building, and dry conditions are holding for most of the week, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Atlanta’s projected high Monday is 68 degrees.

“It’s going to get warmer as the week goes on, and a really nice week in our forecast across North Georgia as we get closer to the start of spring,” Monahan said.

An area of high pressure is responsible for the trouble-free weather conditions, he said. It is keeping away the rain and clouds, and sinking air underneath the high will help North Georgia to warm up.

By midweek, Monahan expects highs in the low 70s. The average high for this time of year is 62 degrees.

“Near 70 degrees today, feeling like spring,” he said. “Under the sunshine, we’re going to stay dry all the way through the work week.”

The official start of spring is March 20. Beginning this weekend, North Georgia will get more daylight hours once clocks are set forward and daylight saving time begins.

The weekend will also come with some rain. Showers are 10% likely Saturday and 20% likely Sunday as temperatures drop back into the low 70s, according to Channel 2.

“Over the weekend, tracking a slight chance of showers,” Monahan said. “It will get a little cooler by Sunday.”
