After a cool start to the month, North Georgia is starting to see the signs that summer is on its way.
Temperatures on Sunday reached a high of 79 degrees in Atlanta, and Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan is predicting a high of 80 degrees Monday. With sunshine also in the forecast, it’s the kind of weather that signals pool parties, barbecues and cool treats.
“Eighty-degree weather, that is ice cream weather, officially,” Monahan said. “We had that yesterday across North Georgia, and even more of it coming today.”
Temperatures are starting out in the low 60s Monday. Monahan expects Atlanta will reach the upper 60s by 8 a.m. and the mid- to upper 70s by 10 a.m.
“It’s looking really nice as we go through the afternoon,” he said. “We start out at sunrise partly cloudy across North Georgia. We’ll finish with a mix of clouds and sunshine by noon.”
A breeze will help usher in the warmer air, according to Channel 2.
While there is a slight 20% chance of a shower Tuesday, Monahan expects most will stay dry all week long. Sunshine and temperatures in the 80s are in the forecast through Friday.
Atlanta could get its first 90-degree day this weekend, according to the latest forecast.

There is only one jam on metro Atlanta interstates as the Monday morning drive gets underway, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
A crash in Conyers has multiple left lane blocked on I-20 West near Sigman Road. Traffic is stacking up behind it, traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
“Sizeable delays developing now out of Conyers,” Arum said. “Your best alternate to avoid the bumper-to-bumper delays is Old Covington Highway. use that as you head westbound to I-285.”
