A few rain showers falling Monday morning will not stick around all day, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Most of the rain should be light, and none of it will be freezing. Temperatures are in the upper 40s to begin the day and should reach the upper 50s once the wet weather clears out, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
“By the afternoon, I think we’ll look a little better across North Georgia,” Monahan said. “And a lot better by Tuesday and Wednesday. We’re closing in on spring, and it’s going to feel a little like spring this week.”
The official start of spring on March 20 is less than four weeks away. Monday’s projected high of 59 degrees is right on target for this time of year in Atlanta, according to Channel 2.
The city just has to get through the morning showers first. While pavement will be wet, Monahan said he does not expect any serious weather hazards for the morning drive.
“No threat of any icing or anything like that out there,” he said. “Just some mild rain showers falling, but it will clear up and it will warm up. By tomorrow, a lot of sunshine in the forecast.”
Tuesday and Wednesday will both be dry with near total sunshine, he said. With all that sun, some neighborhoods will see highs near 70 degrees Wednesday, according to the latest forecast.
Morning lows will be chilly, however. Monahan said a clearing sky Monday night will make way for a start in the 30s Tuesday morning.
The next chance of widespread rain arrives in time for the weekend.
“We’ve got a nice weekend in the forecast, even though there will be some showers,” Monahan said. “Highs will make a run at 70 by Saturday and by Sunday.”

The rain Monday morning is not causing any major delays on metro Atlanta interstates, but two busy Midtown roads are shut down for ongoing problems.
A water main break has closed 17th Street east of West Peachtree Street, and crews could be on site through Tuesday, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
And work continues Monday to remove the crane teetering over West Peachtree Street. Authorities expect the road to remain shut down between 11th and 14th streets all week, as the crane is first dismantled and then removed from a 31-story office tower under construction at 1105 West Peachtree Street.
Northside Drive, Piedmont Road, Peachtree Street or the Downtown Connector are all good alternates to get around the closures, according to the Traffic Center.
