North Georgia is on the dry side of a tropical system drenching the Northeast as it slowly moves inland Monday.
Henri made landfall Sunday on the coast of Rhode Island as a tropical storm and has since been downgraded to a tropical depression. None of the storm’s rain bands have extended south of Tennessee, leaving North Georgia partly cloudy.
“Our impacts from Henri have actually been pretty good here in North Georgia,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “We’ve had drier weather. It moved in yesterday, and it’s going to be even drier today as all that rain and tropical moisture concentrates to our north and to our east.”
With a low 10% chance of rain in the forecast, Monahan said metro Atlanta will get hotter Monday. The city is starting the day warm and humid in the mid-70s, and temperatures are headed for the low 90s this afternoon, he said.
“It’s going to be a hot, humid afternoon today across North Georgia, 92 degrees,” he said. “It’s going to be a hot day today. We were in the upper 80s yesterday, a little hotter today with less in the way of rain.”
Monahan expects temperatures to drop back into the 80s by the time the first pitch is thrown at Truist Park when the Braves take on the New York Yankees at 7:20 p.m. It will stay warm in the 80s all evening, but the rain chances also remain low.

The chance of a shower or storm is slightly higher Tuesday, but at just 20%, Monahan said there will still be plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. He expects a few more showers to enter the mix by early Tuesday afternoon.
“By 3 p.m., most of us are dry, but a couple little showers could pop up Tuesday afternoon,” he said. “That will lead us into a better chance of rain into your Wednesday.”
Wednesday will be wetter with a 60% chance of afternoon storms, according to Channel 2.
