Monday could be the hottest day of the year so far, with highs in the mid- and upper 90s in the forecast.

It’ll be the seventh straight day of 90-degree temperatures in metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

“Most of this week, if not the rest of July, will be in the 90s,” he said.

Temperatures in Atlanta are already in the high 70s. The predicted high is 96 degrees, according to Channel 2.

Moisture in the air will drive the heat index up, making it feel close to 100 degrees throughout metro Atlanta.

“It’s going to feel like triple digits this afternoon,” Monahan said. “By lunchtime today, it feels like close to 100 in Calhoun, Eatonton and Athens.”

Despite the humidity, the chance of precipitation is a slim 30%, according to Channel 2.

“There won’t be much in the way of rain for us today,” Monahan said. North Georgia could see a few pop-up showers, but most of the state will remain dry, he said.

The chance of rain will be better on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Monahan. Isolated showers are in the forecast on both days, he said.
