Settle in this week for what’s going to be a wet weather pattern for North Georgia, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
By Friday afternoon, parts of the region could get more than 2 inches of rainfall, he said. Widespread showers and storms, as well as an isolated severe storm, are in the forecast each day through Wednesday before rain turns more scattered for the end of the week, according to Channel 2.

“Today, tomorrow, and Wednesday are looking like inside days,” Monahan said. “There will be some dry time, but not a whole lot of it.”
Tropical moisture is flowing into North Georgia along an area of low pressure, he said, turning up the dial on humidity and providing the fuel for afternoon storms. According to Monahan, showers should remain light and isolated on Monday morning before becoming heavier and more widespread with the heating of the afternoon.
“Our severe weather risk is pretty low,” he said. “I can’t rule out an isolated strong storm today, but for the most part these storms are going to have heavy rain and lightning. Heavy rain will be the biggest impact.”
It won’t rain all afternoon, however. Monahan said there should still be opportunities to get in some outdoor time between the popup storms, if you can withstand the muggy air.
Tuesday should see more of the same. With “just a ton of humidity” and cloud cover, Monahan expects some showers Tuesday morning before another round of heavier rain and storms during the afternoon.
The benefit of all this rain? Lower temperatures. Atlanta’s projected high on Monday is 82 degrees.
“The clouds and storm chances keep our temperatures on the cooler side, at least compared to average,” Monahan said. “We should be up at 86, but we will be in the low to mid 80s. Later this week, temperatures will start to climb as rain chances start to come down.”
Rain is 70% likely both Monday and Tuesday, and 60% likely Wednesday, according to Channel 2. Thursday and Friday both carry a 40% chance of rain, which Monahan said falls into the scattered range.
He expects North Georgia will mix in a little more sunshine by Friday, which should help temperatures climb to a high of 87 degrees in Atlanta.

Pavement may be dry for the Monday morning drive, but there are early delays in downtown Atlanta after authorities closed multiple lanes on I-20, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
At times only a left lane is getting by on I-20 West past the Downtown Connector while authorities are on the scene of an injury crash, the Traffic Center reported. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, and Joseph E. Boone Boulevard are all good alternates to get around the backups.
