A man attempting to run down a Sandy Springs police officer was shot in the leg by the officer Monday night.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was allegedly driving a stolen car and struck at least two police cars as he tried to avoid being stopped shortly before 7 p.m. in the 5600 block of Roswell Road, according to Capt. Steve Rose with Sandy Springs police.

After striking the patrol cars, the suspect nearly struck an officer before that officer fired his weapon at the car, Rose said.

A man later determined to be the suspect arrived at St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg, according to police. The man’s injuries are not life-threatening and he was taken into custody, Rose said.

No other injuries were reported.
