Atlanta police Tuesday were investigating an overnight shooting that left a man dead.

The shooting happened shortly before midnight Monday in the courtyard of the Providence at Cascade on Fairburn Road.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that the victim was standing in a crowd when the gunman went straight up to him and shot him.

“We have received information that would indicate that he was with a larger group of folks,” Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci told the station. “We don’t believe that any of them were involved.”

The identity of the victim, who was shot multiple times, and a motive for the shooting, have not been released.
