One man was killed and a woman injured when a minivan drove into a restaurant near Town Center Mall, Cobb County police said Friday night.

Investigators believe the driver of a white, 2014 Chrysler Town and Country van was attempting to pull into a parking spot at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Barrett Parkway when she drove onto the sidewalk and into the building. The minivan drove into the front of the restaurant, where it hit at least two people, Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb police said.

William Barton, 19, of McDonough, was a customer in the restaurant when he was run over by the van. Barton was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition, but did not survive, Bowman said.

Barton, a student at Kennesaw State University, was eating with his roommate when he was hit by the van, his father told Channel 2 Action News.

An employee of the restaurant, Lindsey Terronez, 22, of Marietta, was also injured, according to police. She was treated at Kennestone for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the van was identified as Carol Shipley, 67, Woodstock, according to police. Charges are expected to be filed in the crash, Bowman said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 770-499-3987.
