The Woodstock City Council has approved a developer’s request to close Mill Street in the downtown area for the continuing construction of the new Johnston Building.

Work is planned for the overnight hours through April 30, according to Belcher Construction’s after-hours construction permit application.

Belcher said it seeks the closure of Mill at Main Street “to safely erect steel and avoid overhead power lines and pedestrian injury/accident. … We plan to work at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, using a crane in (the) road and light towers on site.”

The construction site is bounded by Wall, Mill and Main streets. Belcher is replacing a small commercial building on the land with a new one.
