The Woodstock City Council on Monday will consider commissioning a detailed study aimed at moving City Hall operations back into the downtown area.

The $17,900 contract with architectural firm BRPH would cover the proposed conversion of the 1913 Woodstock Community Church sanctuary into city offices. The study would provide a full building assessment and architectural design.

City Council members voted this past summer to buy the church at the corner of Main Street and Towne Lake Parkway for $3.7 million. Tentative plans are to move some city offices from an annex located on Ga. 92, at the city’s southern edge.

The council also will consider a contract with the same firm for a master plan to expand the downtown city park and construct an amphitheater, in the process demolishing the old municipal building on Arnold Mill Road. The planning study would cost about $13,250.
