The expanded Reading Room at Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta will open January 1, 2010, Central Atlanta Progress officials said Thursday. The popular library and quiet space now sits next to a brand new, four-sided Welcome Center in the park. The Reading Room has been operating in a smaller area at the south end of Woodruff Park for months while crews worked on the Welcome Center. Patterned after a similar program in New York City’s Bryant Park, the Reading Room draws numerous readers looking for respite from the hustle and bustle of Peachtree Street near Underground Atlanta.
