A woman was shot Thursday afternoon in Marietta, and police are questioning two individuals believed to be connected to the incident, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. at the Wynridge Apartments in the vicinity of South Marietta Parkway and Cobb Parkway, Marietta police spokesman Officer David Baldwin said.

The woman was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in stable condition with what Baldwin called “severe injuries.”

Police said some people inside a Ford Expedition were talking to a group of individuals outside the car.

“An altercation ensued, and during this altercation some of the suspects on the outside of the vehicle started shooting at the Expedition,” Baldwin said. “The Expedition fled the scene in an attempt to escape. At some time during this shooting, the female victim was hit.”

Police have said they are speaking with two persons of interest in connection with the case.

The woman has not been identified, and no suspects have been named at this time.

“This was a very public event,” Baldwin said. “Investigators are interviewing witnesses.”
