A woman remains in serious condition at Grady Memorial Hospital Tuesday night after a fiery three-car crash in Union City.

Charges may be pending against the driver who rear-ended the woman's car in the wreck that closed all lanes on Interstate 85 near Jonesboro Road, authorities said.

Three vehicles collided around 5:30 p.m., Union City Police spokesman Sgt. George Louth said. One car caught on fire, trapping the driver, Louth said.

Emergency workers removed the driver and flew her to Grady. The driver's identity was not available Tuesday night.

"She has traumatic injuries, plus burns," Louth said.

No other injuries were reported.

Police closed all southbound lanes on I-85 for about 20 minutes while they loading the woman in the helicopter, Louth said. As of 6:45 p.m., several of the lanes had been reopened, but traffic was still slow.
