Authorities say a woman died in a house fire on Flowery Branch Road in Auburn.

Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a fire at about 8 p.m. Saturday. They were dispatched seven minutes earlier.

By the time crews arrived at the two-story Cape Cod-style home, the fire was raging.

Firefighters entered the house in flames and rescued a man from the front hallway. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Hospital in Lawrenceville for treatment.

The man who was rescued, and whose name has not been released, told firefighters that a woman was still trapped inside.

Firefighters found Mindy Heart, an elderly woman, dead inside the home, according to Channel 2 Action News. “She was a great woman. She doesn’t have to suffer anymore. God took her away,” Heart's granddaughter, Angel Chandley, told Channel 2.

Firefighters credited a new station built three miles from the home for their ability to get to the home in time to pull the man from the fire, according to Channel 2.

“They knew this was an extremely hazardous situation. They entered the building trying to find and rescue the person inside,” Lt. Eric Eberly of Gwinnett County Fire Rescue told Channel 2.

The exact cause of Heart's death has not yet been determined.

The cause of fire is also under investigation.
