Michael D. Wise has resigned as chief executive officer of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, effective Aug. 31.

Wise, who has held that position since April 2007, is leaving  to pursue other opportunities, said MJCCA spokeswoman  Pam Morton.  Wise was CEO of the organization during a critical time and was instrumental in moving the MJCCA toward financial stability, according to a release announcing his resignation.

Howard Hyman, 63, a former MJCCA president and current vice chairman of the governance board, will become the interim CEO during a national search for Wise's successor.

Hyman will work with the senior executive management team on the continued growth of the organization, which is based in Dunwoody.

"Right now,  we're  in terrific shape," he said. "Our programs are thriving and we look to expand and grow even further in the future."
