City Schools Decatur named Winnona Park second-grade teacher Danielle Edwards as the district’s teacher of the year.

She was chosen from a total nine CSD teachers representing individual schools: Candace Jones-Boynton (College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center), C.J. Batlle (Clairemont Elementary), Tiffany Moody (Glennwood Elementary), Kira Wilsterman (Oakhurst Elementary), Rhonda Bowden (Westchester Elementary), Russell Stewart (4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue), Sarah Coleman (Renfroe Middle) and Claire Shepherd (Decatur High).

Edwards graduated from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and started her career as a mental health case manager. She began teaching in 2004 in Jacksonville, before moving to metro Atlanta in 2010. This is her fifth year at Winnona Park.

She succeeds last year’s district teacher of the year, Decatur High special education instructor and boys basketball coach Bill Roberts.
