The wife of Cherokee County's emergency management director, seriously injured when her vehicle was struck head-on by a minivan last month, has died.
Donna Marie Westbrook, 49, suffered multiple leg fractures in the Feb. 10 wreck on Ga. 108 that killed the driver of the minivan. She was recovering at home, but Monday night, she went to the Northside Hospital Cherokee emergency room, where doctors discovered a blood clot. She died Tuesday.
Juan Cutierrez-Munoz, 51, was driving a Chevrolet Lumina when it crossed the center line and hit the Chevrolet Traverse driven by Westbrook, according to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.
Wrigt said Cutierrez-Munoz was attempting to pass a vehicle that had stopped in the roadway when he crossed into the eastbound lane. Cutierrez-Munoz died in the crash.
Westbrook's 15-year-old daughter, Emily, was also injured in the wreck. Cherokee sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said Thursday that the teen has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
Westbrook's husband, Robby, is director of the Cherokee County Office of Emergency Management.
"Robby Westbrook and his family mean so much to this agency," Baker told the AJC. "Donna's death has hit us very hard."
Baker said visitation for Donna Westbrook will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at South Canton Funeral Home, and her funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chalcedonia Baptist Church in the Keithsburg community north of Canton.
Other survivors include a son, Daniel Westbrook.
