The domestic-violence lobbyist accused of gunning down her husband of five days near the Varsity Restaurant was indicted in court Friday morning.
A Fulton County grand jury indicted 45-year-old Arelisha Bridges for killing 26-year-old Anthony Rankins Jr. Bridges was indicted on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Bridges is accused of killing her husband around 10:45 p.m. on March 1. Witnesses told police she was wearing a nightgown and shower cap as they two argued on North Avenue near West Peachtree Street.
Witnesses told police they heard shots and then Bridges “calmly walked away.”
Bridges told investigators that she and Rankins had been dating only a few months before they were married on Feb. 24.
She also told police she was unemployed. But records show she is a lobbyist for an organization called the National Declaration for Domestic Violence Order; its Web site says the group is pushing legislation to create a database of those convicted of domestic abuse.
Bridges’ case has not yet been scheduled for trial.
