German auto giant Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday released renderings and details of the company's new U.S. headquarters, which will rise along Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs.

Mercedes said it will break ground on the project this spring with a targeted completion date of early 2018. The project sits at Abernathy and Barfield roads near Ga. 400 on a piece of the former Glenridge Hall property. The company has temporary quarters in Dunwoody near Perimeter Mall.

Mercedes’ new campus will cover 12 acres on the south side of the property and include 225,000 square feet of office space. Renderings show a glass mid-rise structure and parking facilities.

A mixed-use community by homebuilder Ashton Woods is planned for the remaining part of the 76-acre property.

In January 2015, Mercedes announced it will build a $93 million headquarters in Sandy Springs, while taking up temporary residence in an office complex near Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody. The company eventually will have about 800 to 1,000 workers at its permanent home.

State and local governments wooed Mercedes with an incentive package that could be worth more than $27 million.

Mercedes officials have said they want the new headquarters to foster a more collaborative environment.
