The city has abandoned a thousand feet of protected bicycle lanes on Westview Drive, not far from Morehouse College.

In their place? Parking spaces.

Many residents of the area, including church-goers on Westview, said the bike lanes messed up traffic, particularly on Sunday mornings, and they wanted them gone.

One neighbor put it this way:

“If you’re going to come in and plant roses in my front yard, ask me about it first. This is a largely poor community. We ask for things all the time, like better sidewalks, but don’t get them. But then we get this?! In an area where hardly anyone rides bikes?”
