Wells Fargo Bank is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a man who robbed a Norcross branch and shot a bank employee Thursday, authorities said.
The FBI and Gwinnett County Police Department issued a public appeal for help identifying and locating the man who stuck up the Wells Fargo Bank at 5525 Peachtree Parkway. The same man is believed to have robbed a Wells Fargo on Centerville Highway in Snellville on June 13.
The lone robber entered the Norcross bank about 11 a.m., displayed a small-caliber semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from a teller, the FBI said. Bank employees complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash.
Then, for reasons unknown, "the male fired a few rounds as he left the bank, striking one person in the arm," Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.
The suspect left the bank and was seen leaving the area in a vehicle whose description was not immediately available.
The wounded bank worker was taken to a local hospital, where he was being treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
“He’s alert and responsive and in good spirits, considering the circumstances,” said Wells Fargo spokesman Jay Lawrence.
Thursday’s incident was the first shooting in recent memory at a Wells Fargo in the metro Atlanta area, Lawrence said.
The robber was described as a black man in his early 20s to early 30s with a light complexion and slender build. He was wearing a black dred-type wig, possibly with a hat.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the FBI's Atlanta office, 404-679-9000, or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
