Waka Flocka locked up for leaving Ga.
Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame was arrested in Houston County last week because he left Georgia without permission.
The AJC reported last week that the performer, whose real name is Juaqin James Malphurs, was arrested for violating the terms of a probation sentence resulting from a felony conviction.
It was unclear how he violated that probation, but the Georgia Department of Corrections clarified that Tuesday: Malphurs left the state without reporting to his probation officer, department spokeswoman Sharmelle Brooks told the AJC.
Malphurs has been connected to a string of incidents involving guns.
In November 2006, he pleaded guilty in Houston County Superior Court to possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
Then, in January, Malphurs, who has a recent mix tape entitled "Salute Me or Shoot Me, Vol. 2," was shot in the arm.
He was washing his car at the Bubble Bath Car Wash on Old National Highway when he scuffled with an armed man who had approached him demanding jewelry, police said at the time.
Earlier this month, a man whom police said was Malphurs' security guard, was detained after a fight at Walter's Clothing in downtown Atlanta. Shots were fired, but no one was hit.
A witness did say, though, that Malphurs got a swollen eye from the melee. Malphurs, whose pseudonym alludes to the sound of cocking a semi-automatic pistol, is a member of local rapper Gucci Mane's 1017 Brick Squad. And the altercation allegedly was between groups affiliated with Gucci Mane and musical artist Young Jeezy.
The next day, on March 5, eight teenage boys were shot after Malphurs performed at a concert in Indiana. The shooting was in the parking lot of World of Skates in Gary. Police said the victims ranged in age from 14 to 18, and suffered wounds in the legs, wrist, stomach or back. The injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening.
It's unclear whether the trip to Indiana is what landed Malphurs in jail last week. Brooks, the corrections spokeswoman, referred detailed questions about Malphurs' case to officials in Houston County, and they could not be reached.
Malphurs, 23, was nearly at the end of his probation term. His 2006 guilty plea resulted in four years of probation, according to the Houston County Superior Court Clerk's office.
