A utility crew digging near the Gwinnett County Court Annex in Lawrenceville caused a gas leak Friday morning, a spokesman for the Gwinnett County fire and emergency services said.
Emergency crews are trying to clamp the gas line outside.
Firefighters responded to a smell of gas inside the courthouse annex, which is on Stone Mountain Street between Constitution Boulevard and Nash Street. Officials found no readings of gas inside the courthouse and did not evacuate the building.
However, authorities did evacuate nearby homes and divert traffic away from the area.
No injuries were reported.
