University System selects chief academic officer

Houston Davis will serve as the chief academic officer for the University System of Georgia starting May 1, officials announced Monday.

The chief academic officer oversees several areas including research, academic programs, student and faculty affairs and teacher education programs.

Davis currently holds this position for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

David Morgan has served as Georgia's interim chief academic officer since July 1. The position was previously held by Susan Herbst, who is now president of the University of Connecticut.
