Buckhead’s Ole Krarup likes to treat himself to nice birthday presents every 10 years. So when he turned 70 in August, he selected a round, two-carat diamond, perfect for a ring.

“It was a very expensive diamond,” said Krarup, who said the stone was worth about $8,000. He designed the ring to match some of his cowboy belts.

But somehow, the diamond fell out of the ring. And Krarup wasn’t sure he’d ever get it back.

He told the staff at Chops Lobster Bar he had been wearing it Thursday night when he ate dinner at the restaurant, a short walk from his home on West Paces Ferry.

“It was really busy that evening,” said Chops manager Brian Fogarty. Fogarty thought Krarup, who eats at the restaurant several times a week, was out of luck.

Then, he spotted it.

“I looked down on the floor, and there it was,” Fogarty said. He called and told Krarup, who returned to Chops on Friday to pick it up.

“How’s that for honesty?” Krarup said. “Most people would take that and get it re-set.”

Krarup took the stone to his jeweler Saturday morning, just to be sure it was his.

“He said, ‘That’s your freaking diamond,’” Krarup said, still in disbelief. “Can you believe that?”

Krarup said he planned to return to the restaurant Saturday night with a $1,000 check for Fogarty for finding the diamond.

“I won’t accept anything,” said Fogarty, who said he was just happy he was able to find the diamond.

Still, Krarup had other plans. “He’s getting a bonus."
