Gwinnett County police have filed charges against two people suspected in a string of cooking oil thefts around metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
Jason Dehart, 30, and Jessica Edgar, 19, are charged with five counts of criminal trespass. Dehart also is charged with ten counts of theft by taking and five counts of possession of tools during the commission of a crime.
The suspects allegedly pulled their beige Ford F250 pickup truck up to outdoor storage tanks for used cooking oil. They then pumped the oil into a tank in the bed of their truck, police said.
The oil was being stored outside of the restaurants to be picked up by private contractors, who refine it into biodiesel fuel.
The thefts at five Gwinnett County restaurants occurred in January and February. Cpl. Jake Smith, a spokesman for Gwinnett police, said investigators have since learned about other thefts the pair committed in Barrow County, Jackson County and the city of Braselton.
The locations of the thefts in Gwinnett were:
- Famous Joes at 3290 Hamilton Mill Road on Jan. 25
- Five Guys at 3350 Buford Drive on Feb. 6
- Arby's at 3475 Braselton Highway on Feb. 6
- Friends House Chinese at 3300 Hamilton Mill Road on Feb. 6
- La Ma Chaci at 2590 Hamilton Mill Road on Feb. 6
