The break from temperatures in the 90s will be brief, with afternoon highs expected to climb back into the low 90s on Wednesday and stay there the rest of the week.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting highs of 89 for Tuesday, a degree warmer than on Monday, when temperatures topped out at 88.

Monday’s cooler temperatures broke a stretch of 90+ highs that stretched back to Aug. 4 – the only other day this month with readings holding in the 80s.

Atlanta’s normal high for mid-August is 88.

Minton is calling for dry weather through Friday, when a 20 percent chance of showers makes its way into the forecast. That slight chance of rain will continue through the weekend.
