The trial of Amy Leann McGarity -- the Gwinnett County woman accused of strangling her friend with an Ethernet cable and dumping her body in an abandoned park -- is expected to begin Monday.

She will be tried alongside a man accused of helping her hide the remains.

McGarity is facing a bevy of felony charges in the 2013 death of 20-year-old Kayla Weil, including malice murder, three counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and concealing the death of another. Her co-defendant, Cedric Lequay English, is charged only with concealing the death of another.

Weil's decomposed body was found on Oct. 24, 2013, wrapped in blankets in a bathroom at Hall County's Chestnut Ridge Park, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property that had been closed the public for several years. Authorities believe McGarity dumped Weil there after strangling her with an Ethernet cable inside a Buford home.

The body is believed to have been in the park for about three months.

In March, another co-defendant in the case, Cody Williams, was sentenced to life in prison for his alleged role in the case. The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that Williams claimed McGarity forced him to help her kill Weil.

Another witness testified in the trial that Williams and McGarity were angry at Weil because she stole from them, the paper reported.
