The feared traffic jams on the Downtown Connector this weekend haven’t occurred even though workers have closed several southbound lanes near the Brookwood merge of Interstates 75 and 85.
Department of Transportation officials said Saturday drivers apparently heard the many warnings to stay off the interstates through downtown Atlanta.
But, events Saturday afternoon could still turn the Connector into a parking lot.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are having a free meet and greet from 3 to 6 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
And Lil Wayne and other big names in hip hop perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Amphitheater.
The three inside lanes of I-85 southbound, including the HOV lane, will be closed until midnight Saturday from the Peachtree Street overpass to 10th Street .
The southbound HOV lane on I-75 will also shut down for all of Saturday from the Northside Drive overpass to 10th Street.
And one southbound lane of I-75 just after the Northside Drive overpass through 10th Street will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday.
