Q: Michael Phelps has 18 gold medals and 22 overall medals. How many Olympics finals has he swum in?
— Dewayne Ediger, Peachtree City
A: Phelps won medals in 22 of his 24 Olympic events, finishing four Olympics with 18 golds, two silvers and two bronzes. He didn't get medals in two other races, according to The Associated Press. As a 15-year-old, he was fifth in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2000 Sydney Games, his only race at those Olympics. This year, Phelps was fourth in the 400-meter individual medley, his first event in London. Phelps, who has won twice as many gold medals as any other Olympian, said he plans to retire after the London Games.
Q: Going north on I-675, I have noticed what looks like an Asian temple with statues in front. It is near Mile Marker 8. Can you tell me what it is and something about it?
— Lane Tharp, Atlanta
A: Wat Lao Buddha Phothisaram is a Buddhist temple located at 4443 East Conley Road in the south DeKalb County community of Conley. A group bought the property in 1996 and later began work on the temple and the surrounding grounds. Chantho Vorasarn, chairman of the board for Wat Lao Buddha Phothisaram Inc., told Q&A on the News that areas of the temple grounds are still under construction, but they welcome visitors to the temple and to services. The temple is just west of I-675 and east of Moreland Avenue.
