Q: A few months ago, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported a story about a Cobb County man who was arrested for animal cruelty after putting a dog in a hot oven. I have not seen a follow-up story to see if that man remains behind bars or not. I'd also like to know the status of the dog and if it is available for adoption.

A: The court date for Gary Moore Jr., who faces a felony animal cruelty charge, was scheduled for Jan. 23, but a "continuance has been granted at the request of the defense," Kathy Watkins, a spokeswoman for Cobb County District Attorney Pat Head, told Q&A on the News in an email. She said she didn't have information when the trial will be rescheduled. Moore is accused of putting a 20-month-old pit bull mix puppy named Melody into a hot oven as an act of revenge against another man last May. Melody fully recovered from the burns that covered most of her body and was adopted, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce told Q&A on the News.
