Q: What happened to Randy and Spiff on the morning true oldies station 106.7 in Atlanta?
-- Rick Brewer, Smyrna
A: Randy Cook and Spiff Carner, known as Randy & Spiff, were the morning hosts on Atlanta's Greatest Hits 106.7 (WYAY-FM) before they were fired on Oct. 3. They began at what was Fox 97 in 1989 before working at Cool 105.7 (2003-05), Lite 94.9 (2005-06) and 640 WGST (2007). They joined 106.7 two years ago.
Q: I read that an individual must sign up for Medicare shortly before the 65th birthday or pay higher premiums when signing up later. If a person is still working and has coverage through another source, that would save the Medicare system money. Can you clarify this?
-- Elizabeth Emery, Marietta
A: People working past the age of 65 are encouraged to sign up for Medicare Part A during a seven-month window surrounding their 65th birthday. People have three months leading up to their 65th birthday, the month of their birthday and three months after their birthday to sign up for Part A, which might help pay some of the hospital costs not covered by group health plans, said Lee Millman, a Medicare spokesperson. There are additional parts of Medicare that are optional and incur premiums. Millman encourages anyone with questions to call 1-800-MEDICARE or go to www.medicare.gov or www.mygeorgiacares.org.
