UPDATE:  Chamberlain Ivey was a senior at Cambridge High School. The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY (published Dec. 18): A teenager who "disappeared" from a house party in Alpharetta early Sunday was later found dead in a nearby lake.

Police believe 18-year-old Chamberlain Ivey drowned, and are “investigating the possibility that illegal narcotics played a role in the events that transpired.”

According to information released Sunday night by Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon, officers came across “a large party” at a home on Clipper Bay Drive around 3:40 a.m. Partygoers told them Ivey was “missing from the gathering” and said it was the second time he had wandered off.

Neighbors reported hearing  “a splash” in nearby Lake Windward.

Police searched the area without any luck before summoning a boat from the Alpharetta fire department. Ivey’s body was eventually found “underwater near the back of a residence,” Gordon said.

Gordon said authorities were investigating whether or not “illegal narcotics” played a role in Ivey’s death but did not provide further information. He did say that “additional attendees” of the party were taken to the hospital for treatment.
