A 19-year-old was convicted and sentenced to life plus five years' probation Thursday for his role in the fatal shooting of a cab driver in 2009, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office announced.

A jury found Samuel Ellis guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the death of 57-year-old Stephen Anim of Austell.

Atlanta police found Anim's body in his cab on April 22, 2009 after the vehicle apparently had crashed into the front gate of the Big Bethel Village retirement facility on Richard Allen Boulevard. He had been shot in the back of the head.

An investigation determined that $700 and a GPS system were missing from the Star Cab Co. vehicle.

A surveillance video of two suspects entering the cab led to arrests.

Ellis, who was 16 at the time, and co-defendant Quantavious Harris, who was 17, caught the cab at the Hamilton E. Holmes MARTA station, authorities said. They fled after committing the crime.

Harris received a prison sentence of life plus 10 years after being convicted in September 2011, the DA's office said.
