A 16-year-old accused of shooting another 16-year-old in the chest has been arrested, police told the AJC Saturday.
Because the suspect is a minor, his name will not be released, Snellville police Chief Roy Whitehead said.
The victim was shot in the chest Friday night in front of Britt Elementary in Snellville, police said.
The shot teen, whose name has not been released, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, Snellville police Chief Roy Whitehead told the AJC. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Whitehead said.
The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. in the grassy area in front of the school, located on Skyland Drive off U.S. Highway 78.
A football scrimmage was held Friday night at South Gwinnett High School, across Skyland Drive from Britt. But neither the victim nor the suspected shooter are students at South Gwinnett, Whitehead said.
The victim is a home-schooled student, police said. The suspect is not a student in the Gwinnett school system, Sloan Roach, spokeswoman for the school district, told the AJC Saturday night.
Snellville police are assisting the Gwinnett County school police with the investigation.
There were no major disturbances reported during the football game vs. Mill Creek High School, Roach said.
