A Clayton County teen accused of killing a 15-year-old girl, then hiding her body for nearly seven months, waived his first appearance in court Tuesday.

Marshae O’Brian Hickman, 19, was charged with murder and concealing a body in the death and disappearance of Forest Park High School freshman Candice Parchment.

Candice was last seen at her mother’s home in the early morning hours of April 28, 2010.

Police weren’t able to locate a suspect until last month after Candice’s mother, Caffian Hyatt, located her daughter’s diary while moving to a smaller home.

In the diary, Candice accuses Hickman and another teen of trying to rape her in January 2010, according to the warrant. Police found the other teen, who has not been charged for the attempted rape and is not implicated in the murder, and he named Hickman.

Hickman was serving a burglary sentence in the Clayton County jail when he confessed to police that he choked Candice to death, then hid her body beneath a discarded mattress near his apartment complex off Old Dixie Highway, according to the affidavit.

Hickman will appear in court Friday for a bond hearing.
